Brrr! It's been cold on the farm!

Hello everyone!

BURRR! The coldest weather of the season is headed our way this week. According to my notes from last year it was 26 degrees here at the farm on Jan 5th. We nearly lost all the eggplant and peppers but covered them with frost cloth just in time. I thought we were going to miss the bitter cold this season but Mother Nature has other plants. We will button up the garden as best we can. The children have a four day weekend so we will put them to good use...they are hoping for SNOW! Joe Boxer is already wearing his fashionable brown and white sweater for the occasion!

We planted ALL the lettuce this week, almost 1200 heads are in the back garden...along with collards, cauliflower, kale, fennel and choi. It will be time to seed new trays in the greenhouse if you want to help...perhaps when it get above 50! The herbs should be fine with the cold except for the basil...I think I have gotten the last from those poor tired plants...but the cilantro should love it! We'll keep you posted.
